Methods

  • Qualitative — Bitrex or saccharin, for most half-face respirators
  • Quantitative — PortaCount instrumentation, required for full-face and SCBA
Fire departments require quantitative fit testing. SCBA is a positive pressure full-facepiece respirator operating at protection factors qualitative methods cannot validate.
